Tools for Schools

PALMS provides practical, research-based resources for school and community leaders whose work connects them with Latino middle-grades students. PALMS developed a toolkit, Tools for Latino Family Outreach: Supporting Student Success in the Middle Grades and Beyond, which incorporates the practices used by college access programs. The toolkit is designed to assist school leaders to build a family outreach program focused on college access and tailored especially to the needs and strengths of their own community. The toolkit can be downloaded in Portable Document Format for free.

PALMS is committed to providing tools that meet the needs of diverse schools.  From 2006 to 2009, PALMS ran pilot implementations of Tools for Latino Family Outreach in several middle schools, gathering important lessons from school leaders.  Since then, we have continued to assist educators to increase family involvement in their schools. We have learned what works in a variety of school settings and have developed several multimedia tools to make these lessons accessible to a broad audience. These tools can be used by school teams already working with the outreach toolkit or used on their own.
